Mohammed Bajaber has given reasons why he is confident Kenya can navigate past tough CHAN 2024 group and how he is looking forward to playing alongside Austin Odhiambo.

Harambee Stars attacker Mohammed Bajaber believes Kenya can get out of their ‘Group of Death’ at the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024).

Kenya are in a tough Group A against Morocco, Angola, DR Congo and Zambia and will be under pressure given they will be playing at home as the tournament is being hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

However, Bajaber feels Benni McCarthy’s charges will lose the war before it even begins if they go into the tournament with fear as approaching every match in confident fashion is the only way to overcome their tough opponents.

“We should not be scared, we respect them but not fear. When you fear you might not play well. At CHAN, we will push ourselves and make Kenyans proud,” Bajaber said on Radio Jambo.

The Kenya Police star is among the 30-man provisional squad named by McCarthy for the tournament and is delighted that he will play alongside Gor Mahia playmaker Austin Odhiambo who he terms the perfect team-mate.

“I like to play with Austin Odhiambo, he is very creative and we link up very well,” he added, while expressing confidence that he will be ready to feature at the tournament as he recovers from an injury that has kept him out for the last one month.

“Still not ready but I hope I will be by the time we get to camp. I am proud and I am happy we will make Kenyans proud,” said the 22-year-old.

Of Kenya’s four opponents, DR Congo and Morocco have each won CHAN twice while Angola were beaten finalists in 2011 with Zambia’s best performance being third place in 2009.

Harambee Stars will kick off their CHAN 2024 campaign with a match against DR Congo on August 3 a day after the opening ceremony in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
