Harambee Stars captain Aboud Omar has explained why Marvin Nabwire’s red card in their match against Angola was a blessing in disguise and why he was Kenya’s hero of the day.
Harambee Stars were playing their second group stage match in the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), hoping to extend their winning streak, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Jo Paciencia put Angola in the lead in the seventh minute, but Austin Odhiambo equalised in the 12th minute through a penalty. Marvin Nabwire was sent off in the 21st minute.

Omar believes that Marvin Nabwire’s absence also made the youngsters turn up and give their all in the match, revealing that they showcased a different sense of maturity.
“First of all, I think we have to appreciate Marvin Nabwire because he is our hero, because without him tackling the guy, we could have been down. He took one for the team, and the boys saw what happened and knew they had to play for him,” Aboud Omar said after the match.
“I think it has been a good game because most of the players are young, but they are also mature, and they know what they want to do, and they have helped a lot.”
