CHAN 2024: Young Harambee Stars Forward Ben Stanley Apologises for Late Error Against Angola
Harambee Stars forward Ben Stanley Omondi has opened up about the costly mistake that almost saw Kenya lose to Angola in their second match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) on Thursday night.
Ben Stanley Omondi entered the match as a late substitute, and his arrival on the pitch was met by a mistake that would have turned things around in favour of Angola.
The Gor Mahia youngster had the opportunity to seal the win by taking the ball to the corner, but instead, he gave it away to the opposition.

He has since owned up to his mistake, noting that he is in the process of learning, just like many other youngsters who are competing on such a big stage for the first time.
Ben Stanley Omondi: I’m Learning From My Mistakes
“First, I think I made a poor decision because I didn’t do what I needed to, but it’s a learning process. This is my first time playing in such a crowd and such a competition, and most of us are just learning. I think I picked my lessons today, and I will be better in the next game,” Ben Stanley Omondi admitted after the match.
He added that the main goal of playing in CHAN 2024 is to have international scouts spot them and, hopefully, they can land careers in Europe or other big leagues.
Ben Stanley Omondi added that he knows several people are watching, and he wants to make things count and hopefully get to play for his dream club.
“Obviously, I’m sure all the players want to make it to international clubs. We are here because we are local players and we want to be professionals in what we do, and we want to give our best because you never know who is watching,” he added.
“We know that the game (against Morocco) is going to be hard, a tough one, for the fans, and we just need their support. They have pushed us today, 10-man, but their support pushed us, and it was great motivation for us."
Harambee Stars will face Morocco in their third match of Group A on Sunday, August 10, looking to secure all three points.
They started their campaign with a 1-0 win over DR Congo before holding Angola to a 1-1 draw in their second match on Thursday. Now, all eyes will be on Harambee Stars to deliver as they look to continue impressing fans.
