Benni McCarthy’s first win as Harambee Stars boss has lifted Kenya’s FIFA ranking following a slight improvement in their global placing in the latest update.

Harambee Stars’ win over Chad has had a positive impact on their FIFA ranking after they move up two places in the latest update.

Kenya played two friendly matches against Chad in June, drawing the first one 0-0, before winning 2-1 in the second encounter, which was coach Benni McCarthy’s first victory since taking over in March.

That has boosted their ranking somewhat as they have jumped up two places on the FIFA ranking from position 111 to 109.

While not as significant, it is a morale-booster for Kenya, who are still among the lowly ranked teams but can boost their position further with better results going forward.

It has been a good month for East African countries as most of them saw their rankings improve with Tanzania and Sudan the biggest gainers in the region after each moved up four places.

Tanzania have moved from position 107 to 103 while Sudan surged to 110, just behind Kenya, from their previous 114. Meanwhile, Uganda, the highest ranked nation in East Africa, has moved up one place to position 88.

Morocco remains the highest ranked African team, sitting at position 12 globally, followed by Senegal, 18th globally, Egypt, Algeria and Nigeria, ranked 34th, 36th and 44th in the world.

Meanwhile, the top five in the world remain unchanged with Argentina, Spain, France, England and Brazil.

Harambee Stars are preparing for the 2024 African Nations Championships set to take place in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August where there is hope that McCarthy will lead them to the latter stages of the competition.
