Senegal's former Chelsea star has warned Harambee Stars to expect a tough test in their upcoming friendly in Turkey.

Senegal suffered a 2-0 defeat in their friendly match against Brazil on Saturday, November 15, and as they gear up for a clash against Kenya’s Harambee Stars, Edouard Mendy has already made his intentions clear.

The Lions of Teranga are using the friendlies to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations, and their 2-0 defeat to Brazil at London’s Emirates Stadium raised concerns ahead of upcoming matches.

The win provided a crucial confidence boost for Brazil as they continued their preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

The opening goal was netted by the sensational teenager Estevao in the 28th minute. The Chelsea-bound forward pounced on a loose ball inside the box and curled a brilliant left-footed effort past the Senegalese goalkeeper to give Brazil the lead.

Just seven minutes later, the lead was doubled by the experienced midfielder Casemiro in the 35th minute. From a cleverly worked free-kick delivered by Rodrygo, Casemiro found himself unmarked at the back post, where he calmly controlled the ball before dispatching a precise shot into the top corner.

Kenya vs Senegal: Edouard Mendy Sends Message to Harambee Stars

Edouard Mendy reflected on Senegal’s recent loss to Brazil, noting that while the team had improved their performance in the first half, technical errors in both preparation and finishing had cost them.

He added that the squad plans to review and analyse the match carefully but stressed that they would not lose confidence or back down in future games.

Edouard Mendy further highlighted that there were positive aspects in Senegal’s performance during the first and second halves that the team intends to build on in upcoming matches.

He added that the squad is focused on finishing strongly in their next friendly against Harambee Stars in Turkey before returning to their clubs to continue preparations for the continental showpiece.

The Lions of Teranga will take on Harambee Stars on Tuesday, November 18, at the Mardan Stadium in Antalya.

“A better first half, a better match. I think we made some technical mistakes in the preparation zone and finishing zone. That is something that needs to be corrected. We are going to watch and analyse the match with a clear head, but we are not going to back down,” he said in a video shared by Match360 TV.

“I think there were some very good things in the second half and at the end of the first half. Those are the things we are going to rely on in our upcoming matches. We have a second match and we are going to finish well in Turkey against Kenya and return to our clubs before our final goals.”

Edouard Mendy concluded by emphasising that, despite the setback against Brazil, Senegal remains determined to build on the positives from the match and deliver a strong performance against Harambee Stars, using the friendly as a key step in their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations.
