Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy will have to do without one of his key players at CHAN 2024 after he left the country following a big-money transfer abroad.
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy’s preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) have been disrupted following the exit of one key player.
McCarthy named his provisional squad for the tournament this week and was looking to assess all players before cutting down the squad ahead of the August 2-30 tournament but will now have to do without one of his star players.
This is after Kakamega Homeboyz striker Moses Shumah was unveiled by Zambian champions Power Dynamos on Friday, having completed a transfer believed to be worth over Ksh3 million.

McCarthy Will Have to Turn to Other Options at CHAN

“Among the new signings is Moses Shumah, the Kenyan league’s top scorer with 17 goals in the just ended season from Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club. His addition to the club is expected to bolster our attacking options,” the Zambian club said through a statement confirming the new signings.
That effectively ruled out Shumah from CHAN as the tournament is strictly meant for players playing in their domestic leagues, disrupting the plans of McCarthy who was set to rely on the striker for goals.
Shumah was the top scorer in the FKF Premier League last season with 17 goals and his huge return made him a key target for teams before Power Dynamos acted quickly to snap him up.

Moses Shumah: Kakamega Homeboyz Name Price For FKF-PL Top Scorer Amid Interest from Zambia
Kakamega Homeboyz have revealed what it will take for them to sell striker Moses Shumah who has finished the season as FKF Premier League top scorer.
It thins the options of McCarthy for the CHAN tournament as he will now heavily rely on FC Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro, who is also looking for a new club, and Tusker’s Ryan Ogam, who just recently returned from a long-term injury.
