According to Oyugi, many of the players selected for CHAN earned their call-ups through hard work and performance in the domestic league.
"The squad is complemented with both senior and young players, and most of the players included have shown on merit they deserve. What I’m sure of is that we can have a strong first 11 from this team because many of them are performers," he said as quoted by Nation Sports.
He added that a good showing at CHAN could be the launchpad for bigger opportunities for the young talents, both locally and abroad.
Oyugi emphasized that the experience gained in such a tournament will help develop their confidence and maturity, key traits for the long-term stability of the Harambee Stars.

While lauding the current set-up, Oyugi also urged head coach McCarthy to consider tapping into local coaching experience by incorporating successful FKF Premier League tacticians into his technical bench.
He singled out Kakamega Homeboyz’s Francis Baraza and Nairobi City Stars’ Nicholas Muyoti as coaches who have proven their tactical abilities in the league and could offer valuable insights to the national team.
“This CHAN is okay, but the advisers of McCarthy should include Francis Baraza and Nicholas Muyoti because they have performed well in the league, they are open and free,” said Oyugi.

Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno: The Making of His Dismissal as Gor Mahia Interim Coach
Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno was dismissed as Gor Mahia's interim coach following mounting fan pressure that eroded trust in his leadership.
Drawing from history, he recalled the success of former national team coach Reinhard Fabisch, who included local assistants Bob Ogolla and Twahir Muhhidin in his technical team, a move that helped Kenya beat highly-ranked opponents.
Oyugi believes such collaboration and loyalty among the coaching staff will be key to helping Kenya not only put up a fight in the CHAN tournament but also lay the foundation for future national team successes.
