The Zanaco midfielder has expressed his excitement over his first Harambee Stars call-up for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Former Gor Mahia midfielder John Ochieng is brimming with excitement following his maiden call-up to the Harambee Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The Zanaco FC of Zambia stalwart is among the 25 players selected by coach Engin Firat for the crucial matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast.

Ochieng, a key defensive midfielder, believes he can make a significant impact in camp and play a pivotal role in Kenya's quest for their first-ever World Cup appearance.

"The goal shifts to working hard in camp and making a debut. I want to be part of the team that will be best remembered for delivering the World Cup ticket. It is possible if we believe in ourselves," said Ochieng told Capital FM.

Ochieng's inclusion comes as part of Firat's strategy to inject fresh talent into the squad.

Besides Ochieng, the coach has called up four more uncapped players, signaling a new era for the national team.

Brian Okoth, a standout performer for FKF Premier League side Kenya Police FC, has also been named in the squad.

Additionally, Tobias Knost, who plays for SV Verl in Germany, and Bruce Kamau of Perth Glory in Australia, have earned their first call-ups.

Adam Wilson, plying his trade with Bradford City in England, rounds out the list of new faces.

The anticipation is high as Kenya prepares to face Burundi on June 7, 2024, followed by a clash with the reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions, Ivory Coast, on June 11, 2024.

Kenya currently occupies the third spot in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, having secured three points from their opening two matches against Gabon and Seychelles.
