Tusker may achieve a double of league and cup wins for the first time since 2016.

Tusker head coach Robert Matano insists his side are taking it a game at a time after sealing a place in the final of the Mozzart Bet Cup final after beating Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in a match played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.

The Brewers needed a 90th minute winner from Eric Otieno to book a date against Kakamega Homeboyz in the final of the FKF Cup in a few weeks’ time.

They have the rare chance to get a double for the first time since 2016, but Matano is choosing not to count his chickens.

“It’s good. Let us wait and see if we can do both but for now, we are still taking it game by game. The rest will come when we reach there.”

Matano is relishing the chance at facing any team left to play this season. Fans, neutrals and the media alike had been anticipating a final between both Tusker and AFC Leopards presumably due to the position of the league.

“We are ready to face any team.We cannot prefer any team in a competition. It is not your choice. We are ready to face any team in the tournament.”

Matano was pleased to get one over his former employers after admitting how they posed a challenge to his side, having created the better goal scoring opportunities.

“We knew it would be a tough match and we prepared for it accordingly,” he said, “Ulinzi are well organized and strong in all departments,” he said.

“We wanted to play well and win. Our game plan worked well. In the second half, we came out stronger, which I expected and we got the result in the end.”

Tusker will face Gor Mahia in their next league fixture, a match many consider to be the title decider.
