The Magpies have cited a "minor thigh injury" as the reason but swirling speculation and internal skepticism suggest there may be deeper issues, possibly signaling the beginning of a high-profile exit.

Isak’s absence has triggered alarm bells, especially as whispers grow louder about his potential move away from the Toons.

The 25-year-old Swedish international, who joined from Real Sociedad in 2022 for around £60 million, was expected to lead the line for Newcastle this season after a prolific campaign where he bagged 27 goals in 42 appearances.

Despite his success, sources close to the player hint that he is looking to explore opportunities elsewhere, with Liverpool reportedly maintaining strong interest.

The Reds recently spent £69 million on Hugo Ekitike but are still believed to be tracking Isak’s situation closely.

Shearer Calls for Honesty

Club legend Alan Shearer didn’t mince words when addressing the issue.

The all-time Premier League top scorer labeled the club’s explanation for Isak’s absence as “ridiculous,” arguing that the fans deserve more transparency.

The former England captain also stated that if Newcastle receives a mega-offer, north of £150 million, and if Isak is pushing for an exit, the club should seriously consider letting him go.

“It’s about protecting the club’s future,” Shearer stated as quoted by BBC Sports, “but also being honest about what’s really going on.”

Three years are remaining on Isak’s contract and Newcastle’s solid financial footing and the Magpies are not under pressure to sell.

The club reportedly values the striker at £130 million, a figure only a handful of elite European clubs could match.

Arsenal, previously linked with Isak, appear close to signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Manchester City, with Erling Haaland up front, are unlikely to join the race while Chelsea have already reinforced their attack this summer, further limiting the pool of suitors.
