Tusker FC coach Robert Matano breathed a sigh of relief as his side ended their three-match winless run, Posta Rangers got back to winning ways as Kenya Police were held by FC Talanta.

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano eased some pressure on him and his side as the Brewers secured a 1-0 victory against his former side Sofapaka in an FKF Premier League match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.

Substitutes Erick Kapaito and James Kibande combined well to hand Tusker the win with the former setting up the latter to score in the 61st minute against the bottom-placed side.

Ezekiel Akwana’s Sofapaka had ended their winless streak last week following a 1-0 win over Kenya Police FC but their quest for a second straight victory was quashed by the under-pressure Tusker.

Matano had seen his side fail to win their last three games, including back-to-back defeats to Shabana FC and Gor Mahia, but breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle with maximum points secured, just their third win of the season after eight matches.

Victory, however, still leaves Tusker in mid-table, as they have 11 points, eight behind leaders Posta Rangers, who beat visiting Bandari 2-0 at the Kasarani Annex in Saturday’s other clash.

Posta 2-0 Bandari

Posta Rangers, who suffered their first defeat of the season following a 3-1 thrashing by FC Talanta last weekend, responded in style, scoring the two goals inside 39 minutes.

John Kamau’s side went ahead after 14 minutes when Titus Achesa’s neat pass found Bernard Ondiek and the midfielder found the target to break the deadlock before they profited from Bandari’s misfortune for the second goal.

Brian Otieno’s shot hit the crossbar before the rebound fell to Andrew Juma who sent it into his own net in an attempt to clear the danger in the 39th minute.

Kamau’s men kept probing in the second half but could not add to their lead but the win will delight the former Thika United head coach whose side now have a three-point lead, following second-placed Gor Mahia’s goalless draw with Bidco United.

Bandari’s hope of picking out maximum points after their win over AFC Leopards went up in smoke, leaving new coach John Baraza with plenty still to work on.

Police 1-1 Talanta

Meanwhile, at the Police Sacco grounds, Kenya Police extended their winless run to two games on the bounce after being held to a 1-1 draw by FC Talanta.

Visiting Talanta went ahead from a Lucas Weitere goal after 21 minutes but the Law Enforcers cancelled out the lead 12 minutes later, when new signing Tyson Otieno fired home from Clinton Kinanga’s pass.

The draw has slowed down the momentum for new Police coach Zdravko Logarusic, who had won back-to-back games before last weekend’s defeat to Sofapaka and the pre-season title contenders are now ninth on the log with 10 points, nine behind table toppers Posta Rangers.
