The former Gor Mahia midfielder has described the upcoming Four Nations Malawi tournament as a priviledge for Harambee Stars to be a part of.

Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony 'Teddy' Akumu is optimistic that the upcoming Four Nations Tournament set to take place in Malawi will help the side go a long way in helping them becoming better as a unit.

Akumu, who is currently a free agent after leaving Japanese outfit Sagan Tosu, has been training alongside the local-based players, who have all reported to camp and were put through their paces at the Jamhuri Grounds on Sunday morning.

Speaking after the session, Akumu raved about the spirits in the camp following day two of training, as the side prepare to wait for the foreign-based players to join them.

“So far so good. Of course, not everyone is in camp yet and we are waiting for the foreign based players to join,” Akumu said.

“All local based players are around. We are waiting for foreign based players to join us but we have enjoyed training for the first two days.”

Akumu believes that the teams they will face will be a good test for their credentials. The tournament will also feature Zimbabwe and 2023 AFCON side Zimbabwe.

“Preparation has been good. We will be facing some of these teams ahead I am sure so it's a privilege and a tournament that will build us significantly as a team.”

The former Gor Mahia defensive midfielder scored the opening goal against the 2018 World Cup hosts, Russia, on October 16 in Antalya, Turkey, where Harambee Stars concluded a series of friendly matches with a resounding 2-2 draw.

Akumu, 31, has found a lifeline under the tutelage of coach Engin Firat and has featured in every Harambee Stars game this year, leading the midfield alongside the dazzling Richard Odada.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Zesco  ace is one of the most capped players in the current squad, having made 49 appearances for the team, just three games behind skipper Michael Olunga.
