Stella Odhiambo’s Last-Gasp Winner Breaks Vihiga Queens Hearts as Kibera Soccer Women Lift FKF Women’s Cup

Odhiambo's goal during stoppage time was enough to give Kibera Soccer Women a 1-0 victory over Vihiga Queens to lift the 2025 FKF Women's Cup.

Stella Odhiambo was the hero at Afraha Stadium as her dramatic 90th-minute strike handed Kibera Soccer Women a historic 1–0 win over Vihiga Queens to clinch the 2025 FKF Women’s Cup on Saturday afternoon.

In a cagey and often scrappy affair, both sides struggled to find rhythm in the final third, with few chances of note in a first half that was more defined by midfield battles than attacking brilliance.

The match came to life late in the second half when Vihiga Queens nearly capitalized on a defensive lapse. In the 78th minute, Martha Amnyolet pounced on a loose ball deep in midfield and floated a dangerous long-range delivery into the Kibera box.

With goalkeeper Vivian Khayati caught off her line, the opportunity begged for a final touch—but no Vihiga forward was there to convert.

Just a minute earlier, in the 77th, Faith Mboya—a constant threat down the right flank—raced to the byline and found Anna Rusi with a pinpoint cross. Rusi did well to control but fluffed her finish, sending the ball wide and keeping the score goalless.

The pattern continued as Kibera pushed forward but lacked the final pass. Mboya again beat her marker down the right in the 85th, sending in a low cross, only for it to flash across the face of goal with no teammate on hand to tap it home.

But just when penalties seemed inevitable, Yvonne Kavere Idagiza split the Vihiga defence with a threaded pass that found Mboya once more flying down the right.

This time, her delivery was inch-perfect, and Stella Odhiambo, coming off the bench, ghosted in at the far post to slot home the winner and send the Kibera bench into raptures.

The late goal sealed Kibera’s first-ever FKF Women’s Cup title—an emotional moment for the Nairobi-based side, who showed discipline and perseverance throughout the campaign.

For Vihiga Queens, it was heartbreak at the final hurdle, as they were denied what would have been another feather in their decorated cap.

“It was a tough match. Both teams wanted to win. Vihiga have also not won for a while. We got chances and lost and they got chances and missed. It was about luck in the end,” Kibera Soccer Women head coach David Vijago said after the match.

“We were not particularly better, but luck was on our side. Maybe God had written it."

The coach has explained the win was commendable considering the haphazard preparations they had in build up to the game on Saturday.

“We have suffered difficulties. Four of my players were off after the international break, and the protests also affected us because we did not train particularly well for the last three days. We have not played particularly well, but we are grateful for the win.”
