Kenya's Talanta Sports Stadium construction progresses well, on track for December 2025 completion, enhancing AFCON 2027 preparations.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has provided a promising update on the ongoing development of the Talanta Sports Stadium.

Launched at the beginning of March by President William Ruto, the project underscores the government's commitment to sports and youth empowerment, with the China Road and Bridge Corporation spearheading construction in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence.

Projected for completion by December 2025, the stadium is poised to become a cornerstone for sports in Kenya.

During his visit to the construction site on Thursday, Namwamba expressed his satisfaction with the progress made thus far.

"Good progress with the excavation work, preparation of the grounds has been completed. Now it's very, very heavy-duty excavation of the foundation. We have a good schedule, we have timelines, and looking at the pace of work going on here, no doubt that we are well within our set timeline," he remarked.

As one of the two venues earmarked to host matches during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania, its completion is critical.

The facility's readiness by December 2025 will provide ample time for testing and preparations ahead of this prestigious tournament.

"So very confident that Talanta Sports City is on track. We have no doubt whatsoever that this project should be ready on schedule. And we have set the target of December 2025 to have this project ready and good to go. To be put to the test and that will give us about a year and a half to test it, to try it out ahead of AFCON 2027. So all is good, all is on track, quite pleased with the progress of works here," Namwamba added.

Meanwhile, renovations are also underway at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, another key venue for the upcoming tournament.
