Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has sent a warning to struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund who scored his second goal for the club since December on Sunday.

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has sent a warning to striker Rasmus Hojlund following his toothless displays in front of goal.

The Danish striker scored his second goal since December when he netted a stoppage time equaliser as United drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Red Devils were close to losing yet another Premier League match after 10-man Bournemouth went ahead through Antoine Semenyo’s 32nd minute goal but Hojlund ended his goal drought with a close-range strike.

It was just the ninth goal in all competitions for the 22-year-old and fourth in the Premier League but with United without Joshua Zirkzee for the rest of the season, Hojlund now carries their goalscoring burden as they bid for Europa League glory, their only route back into the Champions League.

That has seen Amorim ramp up pressure on Hojlund to improve quickly as the team is now relying on him more for goals.

“He now needs to score many more. I see the training, the way they behave, the way they want to improve,” Amorim said after the match as quoted by The Sun.

“I see the games also and I try to put out the best 11 to win games. It was a good moment for him but it’s just a goal. Let’s focus on Thursday.”

There have been reports that Hojlund is among players United are looking to offload in the summer but the Portuguese coach did not want to be drawn into that conversation.

“We like our strikers. We’re improving our strikers. We’ll see what happens next season. Rasmus is scoring, so we’ll see,” he added, when quizzed over Hojlund’s future.

United take on Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday and need a good result to take home for the return match next week.
