Ruben Amorim criticised his team's lapses after Manchester United surrendered a lead in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was left frustrated after his team failed to secure a victory against Bournemouth, despite dominating large spells of a chaotic 4-4 draw at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Red Devils led twice in the first half, only to find themselves 3-2 down shortly after the restart. They fought back to establish a 4-3 lead but ultimately conceded a late equaliser, dropping two crucial points in their final home match before Christmas.

While Ruben Amorim conceded that the eight-goal thriller was entertaining for neutral spectators and an improvement on recent home performances, he insisted his side should have put the game to bed long before the final whistle.

Ruben Amorim Reacts to Manchester United Draw Against Bournemouth

"It's really disappointing," Amorim stated in his post-match interviews. "A crazy game. It might look like we lost two points in the second half, but I think we lost them in the first. We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go to half-time with a different result."

The manager felt Manchester United were firmly in control for the opening 45 minutes, but were let down by a lack of clinical finishing.

"We started really well and had a very good first half. The result should have been completely different," he explained.

"Then, six minutes into the second half, similar to the Nottingham Forest game, we lost concentration, and they scored two goals."

Despite the setback, Manchester United rallied to score twice and reclaim the lead. However, a lapse in game management allowed Bournemouth to level the score late on.

"We managed to get back into the game and score two goals, and then you have to finish it," Amorim said. "With a throw-in in our possession, we needed to calm things down and close the game out, not go again. In the end, it was a fun game for everyone at home."

When asked if he thought the match was won at 4-3, the manager replied: "Yes, because I saw the effort of the players. When we made it 4-3, I had the feeling that we would continue to push for another one. We tried, but in the end, it was a draw."

Ruben Amorim emphasised the need to improve on the finer points of their play, stating that small details are costing his team victories.

"We are not winning games sometimes because of the details. It's not about the formation…a back four, three, or five. It's the details we need to work on to understand the momentum of the game," he added.

Reflecting on the performance, Ruben Amorim acknowledged it was a step up from their previous two home fixtures.

"The performance today was different from the last two at home. The result is the same, one point. It's frustrating, but the performance is different," he shared.

Manchester United now shift their focus to their next match, where they will travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa in a crucial Premier League clash on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
