Manchester United legend Roy Keane has hit out at his ex-team for lacking quality and intensity after dropping points from a winning position against West Ham.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on his old club, accusing the players of being "frightened" and lacking quality after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham at Old Trafford.

The result came just a week after United suffered a defeat to a 10-man Everton side, compounding the frustration around the team's inability to secure crucial points. Keane did not hold back in his assessment for Sky Sports.

"You try and deal better being one up against a team in the bottom three and Everton with 10 men. If you can't deal with that, how can you deal with being a team in the top of the table?" Keane questioned. "If they are anxious, you worry why they are playing for Manchester United and what they are fearful of. Fearful of West Ham, why?"

Roy Keane Hits Out at ‘Schoolboy’ Display

Diogo Dalot had given United the lead in the 58th minute with his first goal in over two years. Despite dominating possession with 65% and registering 17 shots, Ruben Amorim's side failed to extend their advantage. Their profligacy was punished late on when Soungoutou Magassa headed in an equaliser from a corner.

The draw was a significant missed opportunity for United, who could have climbed to fifth in the table. Instead, they remain eighth, two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Keane continued his tirade, criticising the team's overall performance and lack of mental fortitude. "This team is not ready to go fifth – fifth in the league! I've watched the games closely, the lack of quality and intensity. They got two goals against Palace but they defended like a pub team."

The club legend also singled out individuals and questioned the squad's depth despite significant investment. "When you look at the squad, considering the money that has been spent, they lack strength in depth, particularly in the attacking areas," he said. "I look at Mason Mount when he came on, he was like a schoolboy out there."

What is Gary Neville’s Assessment of Man United?

Fellow pundit and former teammate Gary Neville shared Keane's frustrations, pointing to United's poor home form, which has seen them drop five points in their last two games.

"There's real frustration that they keep having these opportunities – one point from six against Everton and West Ham at home," Neville commented. "They haven't played well enough, they've let games drift. There's not anywhere near enough urgency in the game."

Neville also noted the visible disappointment from the club's new hierarchy, including CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox, adding, "They know it's not good enough."

United manager Ruben Amorim appeared dejected after the final whistle, admitting his own exasperation with the team's performance. "I’m angry and frustrated," said the United boss. "We are really inconsistent. If you look at the goal, 83 minutes, we have a long ball and everything under control. We have to do better."
