Roy Keane slams England’s lacklustre display as Tuchel’s side suffers a worrying defeat ahead of key World Cup qualifiers.

Roy Keane has tore into England’s underwhelming display on Tuesday night after the Three Lions fell to a humbling 3-1 defeat against Senegal at the City Ground.

In a game that exposed cracks in Thomas Tuchel’s fledgling reign as England manager, the African champions staged a spirited comeback to secure a famous victory and leave the hosts facing mounting questions just a year out from the World Cup.

England had hoped to bounce back from their sluggish 1-0 win over Andorra at the weekend and looked to be on course when Harry Kane fired them into an early lead.

But Senegal responded with grit and flair, equalising through Ismaila Sarr shortly before the break, before second-half goals from Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly stunned Tuchel’s side.

“The players are having a chat like they’re in Starbucks”

“The signs aren't great,” Roy Keane said on ITV as per Daily Mail.

“The rhythm wasn't there. Dream start, go 1-0 up, made good changes. [But it] won't be a good summer break for the manager and I think he'll be concerned.”

The defeat marked Tuchel’s first loss in charge since replacing Gareth Southgate, and the German’s decision to make 10 changes from the side that edged Andorra appeared to backfire.

England lacked cohesion and direction throughout, prompting Keane to question the team’s mentality and togetherness.

“I think there's something amiss. They don't look like a happy group. Are they really all in it together? Is there a spirit amongst the group? I'm not sure,” Keane continued.

“They are all waiting for something to happen. These are quality players. They just seem to be lost. The players are having a chat like they're in Starbucks: do your job!”

Tuchel’s big shake-up backfires

Despite Tuchel’s attempts to rotate and test his squad depth, the reshuffle only added to England’s disjointed showing.

Ian Wright, also speaking on ITV, pointed to the wholesale changes as a potential cause of the team’s lack of rhythm and understanding on the pitch.

“It's best that he finds out as soon as he possibly can,” Wright said.

“You have to get these players to gel.”

The result leaves England with just one convincing performance from four games under Tuchel.

With the World Cup looming in twelve months’ time, the former Chelsea boss finds himself under early scrutiny, especially given England’s recent struggles to assert themselves against sides they are expected to beat comfortably.

World Cup qualifiers now must-win

England’s next fixtures in September—a pair of World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia—now take on added significance.

With questions swirling about his best XI and growing doubts over squad morale, Tuchel will be under immense pressure to deliver both results and performances.

Tuchel now faces the challenge of instilling confidence and unity in a squad that Keane described as looking “lost.”

If he cannot steady the ship soon, England’s World Cup campaign could be in danger before it even begins.
