A conflict between the clubs also saw their respective fans engage over which team is bigger.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Bandari and National Super League leaders Shabana FC engaged in an online spat over ‘001’ tag.

The tag, famously associated with the former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, has gained prominence even outside the political arena. In street jargon, it is always understood to mean who is bigger than the other or who is the boss.

Whereas Shabana are on the verge of getting a promotion to the top-tier, Bandari have failed to make their consistent participation in the Premier League count as they are yet to lift the title.

After a win over Naivas on Wednesday, Tore Bobe marked their fifth straight win, which took them closer to a promotion ticket. They lead the NSL table with a nine-point gap ahead of second-placed Murang’a Seal.

On the other hand, Bandari were ruthless in their last two league games. After beating Vihiga Bullets 7-2 in their previous game, they outwitted Mathare United 3-0 in their midweek match.

The Dockers have a slight mathematical chance of winning the Premier League title, but that would mean expecting the leading pack – Gor Mahia, Tusker, Nzoia Sugar, and KCB - to drop massive points while, on their part, picking up maximum points in the remaining games.

At the end of the season, Shabana are likely to be in a bigger state of happiness as they are set to become NSL champions and win promotion. A double delight.

Bandari are only participating in the Premier League after they were mercilessly eliminated from the FKF Cup by AFC Leopards. The loss saw them make changes, with coach Anthony Kimani leaving and Twahir Muhiddin taking charge.

Keeping everything constant, Shabana and Bandari will be clashing next season in the top-tier.
