Speaking at Tuesday’s flag-off of the Kenyan U-20 national football team for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Championships (AFCON), set to begin on April 27, 2025, President Ruto highlighted his son's commitment to the sport.
"I want to tell you my own son is a great fan of football, and he keeps telling me that we have to do something. To show how serious he is, he has even pursued a Master’s in Sports Management because he wants to come and support you," Ruto said, as reported by Citizen.
"The young people of Kenya see the potential and opportunity that exists in sports, especially football," he added.
This revelation comes at a time when Kenya is preparing for a packed football season, with the President spearheading critical infrastructure development projects to support the sport.

The senior national team, Harambee Stars, is preparing for the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) in August and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
