Francis Uzoho is subject to scrutiny once again, as Nigerians fault him for a freekick goal conceded against Zimbabwe.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have fallen behind to the Warriors of Zimbabwe after the heavily criticised Francis Uzoho was beaten from range.

The Nigerian national team travelled to Zimbabwe as they looked to get their World Cup qualification back on track after failing to beat group menos Lesotho in Uyo.

Nigeria’s current first-choice shot-stopper, Uzoho, has been on a poor streak of games for the Super Eagles, and this has led to calls for him to be dropped. However, Jose Peseiro continues to bet on the Omonia Nicosia man.

Uzoho has betrayed this trust once again and given credence to his critics after he was found lacking from a long-range shot. Uzoho was beaten by Walter Musona’s free-kick from 35 yards out; now Peseiro’s men begin the uphill battle to not only equalise but win.

It is only the early stages of qualifying, but a win is almost non-negotiable given the dynamics of the group and Nigeria’s absence from Qatar 2022. It is also worth noting that Uzoho was a culprit for Nigeria’s failure to participate in the Gulf World Cup, as his howler allowed a Thomas Partey shot in during the playoffs against Ghana.

Reactions to the goal

Nigerians are not waiting for the final result and have taken to social media in their numbers to let their displeasure known about Uzoho's continued prominence in the national team.

Meanwhile, Pulse Sports argues that under no circumstances should the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), at this time, even consider sacking the coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro.
