Kenya U17 forward Nathan Acholla has explained the lessons the group have learnt from coach William Muluya at the ongoing CECAFA U17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Ethiopia.
Kenya have been doing well at the tournament so far this campaign. They drew 1-1 with Somalia in the opening game, before beating Rwanda 2-1 in their second. On Monday, they thrashed South Sudan 2-0, and are now on course to achieve that semi-final berth as they prepare to take on hosts Ethiopia on Thursday.
Speaking to the media ahead of their win over Sudan, Acholla, who came on as a substitute during their comeback win over Rwanda, explained how he has been taking care of himself in efforts to be in optimal condition for games under adverse weather conditions in Addis Ababa.

FKF Hold First Strategic Meeting with Benni McCarthy and Co to Map Out Harambee Stars Rebuild
The Football Kenya Federation has begun strategic steps with Benni McCarthy to rebuild Harambee Stars, starting with an initial meeting with the technical team.
“I have just been eating the right stuff — carbohydrates, proteins — and then getting enough sleep for recovery. A lot of focus in training, and a lot of stretching,” he said, underscoring the discipline behind his physical readiness.
Muluya Giving us Valuable Lessons
But it’s not just about physical fitness. Acholla also credited Muluya and his technical bench that includes Shabana coach Peter Okidi, for sharpening the team’s tactical identity.
“Coach has told us a lot about off-the-ball work … because we have been shaky,” he explained. “And then keeping the ball in order to make the opposition run and then tire them out.”
This emphasis on movement and possession has helped the Junior Stars impose themselves more confidently, controlling games and dictating pace.

Harambee Stars: Why an 8-0 Defeat to Senegal Still Fits Benni McCarthy's Long-Term Plan
Harambee Stars' technical bench believes the heavy defeat was still a crucial step in shaping the young squad they are preparing for AFCON 2027.
The format is tight — only the top two teams in the group advance to the semi-finals, and the two finalists will secure CECAFA’s slots for the 2026 U‑17 AFCON.
Acholla’s focus on discipline is proving to be a cornerstone of Kenya’s ambition. With semi-final qualification now sharply in view, the Junior Stars are not just dreaming — they are building a legacy.
Kenya will be hoping they can make it to the semi finals, where they will face one of the top two sides in pool B, knowing that a win will seal their place in 2026’s CAF U17 AFCON, which will be held in Morocco.
