Namwamba updated CAF President Patrice Motsepe on Kenya's preparations for the 2027 AFCON before meeting Didier Drogba on a visit to Ivory Coast for the ongoing tournament.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has updated CAF President Patrice Motsepe on Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which will be taking place in East Africa for the first time in history.

Namwamba is in Ivory Coast for the ongoing competition and was at the Olympic Stadium in Abidjan, witnessing the clash between Ivory Coast and DR Congo, with the host nation beating the two-time AFCON winners.

The CS met Motsepe and the Ivory Coast football federation as he sought to benchmark how they prepared for the tournament, which will give him ideas to implement as Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania prepare for the tournament.

Namwamba was quick to give kudos to Mostepe for managing to oversee rapid progress in football development.

“Congratulations to CAF President Patrice Motsepe and his team for the phenomenal growth of African football as is manifesting at the #AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire,”  Namwamba said.

“Last evening (Wednesday) I joined Patrice and the leadership of Cote d'Ivoire to watch the semi-final game between Les Éléphants and Les Léopards (DRC) at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium (Olympic Stadium, Ebimpé) in Abidjan.

“Took time to update CAF on Kenya/East Africa Pamoja preparations.”

In October, Namwamba had assured that the country would be done with renovations of their stadia - as well as the construction of the Talanta Sports City at the Jamuhuri Showgrounds - by 2026.

“I want to assure the country that this one we are committed to and it will work, let us all rally behind this tournament and if there’s a time, we are more prepared than ever it is now. The level of preparedness is unquestionable,” Namwamba stated.

“We gave the assurance right from the beginning that we will be ready for AFCON 2027 and from what can be seen in here, we are perfectly on track to hit the target of completing the refurbishment works in time,” the former Budalangi MP stated on a visit to Kasarani, which is already undergoing renovations.
