The CS has assured fans who wish to go to Naivasha to witness the Safari Rally that the fun aspect will remain intact despite implimentation of fierce security measures.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has assured prospective Kenyan fans wishing to attend the upcoming Easter Safari Rally in Naivasha that the fun aspect of the event will not be  taken away despite implementation of strict security measures at the event.

The Naivasha WRC leg, which is set to be the third leg of the season, will see the motorcade will embark on a captivating journey, from Kasarani National Stadium for a brief exhibition, to the Service Park in Naivasha, the heart of the main event.

Finally, the rally will conclude at the breathtaking Hells Gate, adding a spectacular finale to the adrenaline-fueled competition.

Overflowing with confidence, Namwamba expressed Kenya's readiness to host a thrilling, safe, and unforgettable event.

“We want a secure event but also want Kenyans to have fun, so even as we introduce these measures, we do not want to take the fun out of the rally,” Namwamba said.

“It is a fun moment and a beautiful blessed moment of Easter. We want Kenyans to enjoy both Easter and the rally.”

Scheduled to kick off on Thursday, March 28, and culminating on Sunday, March 31, the Safari Rally promises an exhilarating spectacle.

President William Ruto would officially flag off the rally at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, marking the commencement of a gripping journey.

Reflecting on Kenya's standing in the rally series, Namwamba remarked, “We are now third in the series after rally Monte Carlo that opens and Rally Sweden, which is second in the rally log.” The resurgence of the Safari Rally after nearly two decades in obscurity fills Namwamba with pride, affirming Kenya's rightful place as the host of the only round on African soil.

Acknowledging the invaluable support from Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika and her team, Namwamba praised their efforts in organizing the rally. He emphasized the opportunities created for the youth to engage in socio-economic activities, contributing to income generation and empowerment.

In addressing concerns about the rally route, WRC Safari Rally Chief Executive Officer, Charles Gacheru, provided reassurance that measures had been taken to address challenges.

He highlighted the collaboration with the National Youth Service to mitigate issues such as large gullies along the route, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for participants.

“I have seen pictures circulating of very big gullies at Hells Gate and Geothermal. This is normal as it is only the loose soil getting washed away by the floods. We engaged the National Youth Service and they have done a great job for us there,” he said.

Gacheru emphasized the importance of accreditation for marshals, media, and rally staff through the Eventos online platform, certified by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.

He urged members of the public to refer to the spectator guide online for comprehensive information on joining the rally festivities.

As excitement mounts and preparations intensify, Kenya eagerly anticipates the arrival of the WRC 2024 Safari Rally, ready to showcase its hospitality, passion for motorsport, and the natural beauty of its landscapes to the world.
