The former Gor Mahia and Azam FC midfielder has explained why Tanzanian football has grown significantly over the last couple of years.

Kenya Police FC's new signing Kenneth Muguna has explained why Tanzanian football has made huge strides towards becoming one of the best leagues in Africa in recent years.

Muguna played for Azam FC in the Tanzanian Premier League for two years, having joined in June 2021, but left following the expiry of his contract “in good terms”.

The 2016 Kenyan Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) has explained why the Tanzanian league has continued to make strides, which should challenge those who run the Kenyan league in order to make it more sellable and attractive.

“They market their football well. All their media houses cover local football extensively which means it makes people want to be associated with the game,” Muguna said.

“Apart from that, the fact that the game has so many fans has allowed their league to attract more sponsors which has put them in a good position financially.”

Muguna also played in the Albanian top flight, featuring for KF Tirana, and has explained the difference between football in Europe and Africa in general.

“The level of football in Europe is just on another level because the intensity is faster although we play the same way. That is the biggest difference between football in Europe and football in Africa.”

The Kenya international was keeping his options open as a free agent and was hugely expected to join Simba, having posted a photo on his Twitter handle wearing a jersey of the Tanzanian giants, which got people thinking about whether he was set to join the club.

He surprised many on Friday morning when he opted to sign for the star-studded Law Enforcers instead. His next challenge is to help Police become serious title challengers.

"I know how amazing it feels to win and what it takes to do it," he said after signing for Police.
