Yaya Toure’s Career

Born on 13 May 1983, in Bouake on the Ivory Coast, Toure joined the ASEC Mimosas youth academy in 1996 at the age of 13.

Initially signing for Beveren in 2001, Toure was offered a trial at Arsenal in 2003, but failed to acquire a work permit, before  having spells at Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos, Monaco, and Barcelona, where he played under current City manager Pep Guardiola.

In July 2010, Toure signed for City for a fee reported to be £24 million. He was given the squad number 42, the reverse of the 24 he had worn at Barcelona and he was teamed with his older brother Kolo Toure.

During his time at the club, the Ivorian helped usher in a new era of success for City, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups, and an FA Cup.

Renowned for his powerful runs, technical brilliance, and knack for scoring crucial goals—including the winner in the 2011 FA Cup final that ended the club’s 35-year trophy drought—Touré cemented his legacy as a club legend and a key figure in City's transformation into a football powerhouse.

One of the greatest African players of all time, Touré was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
