The Tusker vice captain  is hoping to make a return to the Harambee Stars set up soon.

Tusker defender Michael Kibwage believes he is ready to make his long-awaited return to the Kenya national team after enjoying a remarkable return to his best with the Brewers.

Kibwagwe joined the club in 2023 after a long spell out in the cold after leaving Sofapaka, before Tusker took a chance on the former KCB center back.

He was used as a back up centre back in his first few months at the club, but has now established himself as a key man for the Ruaraka-based outfit in their quest to lift the league title this season, as well as assert his influence as vice captain.

Speaking to Pulse Sports following their 5-0 demolition of KCB, Kibwage revealed that he feels it is high time he returned to the Harambee Stars set up after a difficult few years.

“The good thing about football is that you see everything like in broad daylight and everyone sees you perform,” Kibwage said.

“If I keep on helping the side gather these clean sheets I believe there is always a chance.”

Kibwage, who made his debut for Kenya under Francis Kimanzi in 2019, has revealed it was always in his plan to want to make a return to Kenya after Tusker gave him the platform to express himself.

“I believe I will return. I have been there before as I have amassed 10 caps under my belt. My form is starting to come back.

“My plan when I joined Tusker last season was to first get my fitness back in check because I had been out of the game for such a long time after I left Sofapaka.

“Now I am in the team on a regular basis and the plan is to do as well as I can in order to get back to representing my country.”

Kibwage also represented the country at u23 level in 2018 alongside Johnstone Omurwa and Joseph Okumu, two center backs that have gone on to cement their places in the Harambee Stars set up.

He will be hoping he can keep his run going in order to catch the eye of Engin Firat in what is a very monumental year for Harambee Stars.

Kenya will be taking part in both the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers, as well as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The side will also be taking part in the African Nations Championship, a tournament they are reportedly hosting this year alongside Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
