The Reds suffered a damaging home loss to the Eagles on Sunday, meaning the Premier League title is out of their hands.

Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon to pour cold water on the Reds’ Premier League title aspirations.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

The Reds were two points behind Manchester City heading into Sunday's game — with Pep Guardiola's men defeating Luton Town 5-1 on Saturday — and were favourites to defeat a Palace side that had not won a league game in five (three defeats).

However, Jurgen Klopp’s men were stunned by a 14th-minute Eberechi Eze goal, and it remained that way at Anfield despite the home side shooting at goal 21 times and accumulating Expected Goals (xG) of 2.87.

Klopp’s undesirable Anfield record against Crystal Palace

Palace were aided by last-ditch blocks and Dean Henderson’s impressive shot-stopping to secure a third Premier League victory over Klopp’s men on Merseyside.

The South London club have been a thorn in the Reds side under the German, stunning the 2020 topflight champions with a 2-1 victory in 2015, another by a similar score two years later and Sunday's 1-0 triumph.

The upshot of Liverpool’s loss in the Premier League run-in

With Arsenal taking on Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium later, Liverpool could fall three points adrift Mikel Arteta’s men, who have a significantly superior goal difference, potentially making the Reds third favourite to claim the title at the campaign’s culmination.

Liverpool have had themselves to blame for picking one point from an available six against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, having missed several presentable goalscoring opportunities in both games and paying the price for their openness out of possession.

What comes next for Liverpool?

The Reds travel to Atalanta trailing in the Europa League quarter-final after losing the first leg 3-0 at Anfield.

After this week’s trip to tussle Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, Klopp’s side are away at Fulham on April 21, keen to return to winning ways in the Premier League title race.
