Tottenham boss Ange Postecolou has commented on Lionel Messi’s statement on the Lilywhites and Argentina centre-back Christian Romero.
What Messi said about Romero
The 23-year-old centre-back is currently on international duty with the Albiceleste and was involved in their 1-0 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier victory over Ecuador.

Romero was outstanding in the encounter, earning himself high praise from his national team captain, Messi.
As Pulse Sports reported, the former Barcelona star stated via the Evening Standard, as reported by the Daily Mail, “For me, he is the best defender in the world right now. Amazing performance tonight, man of the match.”
What Ange Postecoglou said about Messi’s statement
The Australian manager was asked about Messi’s claim about one of his centre-backs, and he replied by saying he could not dispute the statement.
“I wouldn’t argue with Messi,” he said, per TalkSport.
“I’ll tell you what, I wouldn’t like to play against him [Romero]. Most of the boys don’t like to train against him. He’s a real competitor, and I love that about him. Whether it’s training or a game, what you see is what you get with Romero.”
Romero has enjoyed a return to top form with the arrival of Postecoglou after struggling in parts under Antonio Conte last season. They are currently ranked second behind Manchester City on the log, unbeaten with three wins and a draw in four games.
