The Denmark-born star who is legible to play for Harambee Stars, nearly joined Brighton in February for a fee upwards of 6.9 million pounds (Ksh 1.2 billion) but the move hit a snag.

Harambee Stars-eligible winger Clement Mutahi Bischoff has opened up about the emotional toll of his failed move to Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, as fresh reports link him strongly with a transfer to Sunderland.

The 19-year-old Brøndby star was reportedly on the verge of joining Brighton earlier this year in a deal worth approximately Ksh 1.2 billion (£6.9 million)- which was also reported by Pulse Sports.

However, despite traveling to England and appearing poised to sign, the deal collapsed unexpectedly.

In June, a report by Danish journalist Toke Theilade, editor of Brøndby-focused site VilfortPark, Sunderland are now in pole position to sign Bischoff, who has just one year remaining on his contract.

“I think that £5.1 million is a good price for all parties,” Theilade told Mackem News. “Sunderland would get him at a significant discount compared to the £6.9 million Brøndby almost got from Brighton in the spring.”

Despite interest from other clubs—including Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers—Theilade expects a move to go through this summer, with Sunderland leading the race.

“There is a lot of interest. Moving directly to the Premier League is a big move, and risky too, but he is a talented lad. I think he’ll end up going there.”

Why the Brighton Deal Collapsed

Theilade revealed that there’s still no official explanation for why the Brighton transfer broke down, though contract negotiations appear to have been the stumbling block.

“No official reason has been given for the move collapsing, but apparently, he couldn’t come to an agreement on the contract.

"It was highly surprising since he even travelled to Brighton, so everybody assumed it was all sorted.”

It Was Like a Dream -Clement Mutahi Bishcoff

In an emotional interview with Ekstra Bladet, Bischoff reflected on how close he was to realizing his Premier League dream—and the pain of watching it fall apart.

“It was such a strange feeling. It was as if something was taken away from me just as I was about to achieve something.

“ It was tough. Brighton was a project I could see myself in, which is the most important thing. It’s a good club, and it’s the Premier League, so of course it’s a boyhood dream. I was disappointed.”

The young winger also shared how he’s dealt with the setback mentally:

“It was a bit like a movie. But as I’ve always been told, things move quickly in football. The first day, I thought about it an awful lot, and it was tough.

“ I just want to get back on the training pitch and get my mind off it a bit, because it’s on the football pitch that I forget things. I’ve done that, so I’m moving on now.”

With a potential Ksh 1 billion-plus move still on the horizon, Bischoff remains one of the most sought-after teenage talents in Danish football.

If Sunderland do secure his signature, it would mark a major coup—and possibly a launching pad to the Premier League he nearly reached.
