Pulse Sports looks into how Kenya might line up for their game against the hosts of the Four-Nations tourney.

Harambee Stars are set to play their opening game in the highly-anticipated Four-Nations tournament this Saturday afternoon.

With aspirations of a strong start, the East Africans, under the guidance of coach Engin Firat, are poised to face the host nation at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe.

Despite the significant challenge, Firat's strategic focus leans towards the long-term building of a formidable team rather than immediate results, sparking speculation about potential shifts in the starting lineup, particularly favoring younger talent over more seasoned players.

With the predicted absence of key defenders, Joseph Okumu of Stade de Reims and Daniel Ayembe, whose unavailability due to medical concerns has been a point of worry for coach Firat, the gaffer will need to adjust his defensive strategy accordingly.

Firat's strategy might lean towards a midfield-dense formation to disrupt the Malawian squad's rhythm, deviating from a traditional three-forward attack.

This tactical shift aims to dominate the midfield battle, a critical area for controlling the game's pace and flow.

Goalkeeping duties are expected to fall to Patrick Matasi, whose commendable performances in 2026 World Cup qualifiers have solidified his standing as the first-choice keeper, especially with Byrne Omondi just returning to fitness.

The backline will see Amos Nondi stepping into the right-back position, with Omurwa filling the central defender role in Okumu's absence.

With Erick 'Marcelo' Ouma sidelined, Geoffrey 'Simiti' Ochieng is likely to occupy the left-back position, ensuring defensive solidity and potential for wide attacks.

The midfield will likely feature Anthony 'Teddy' Akumu, a consistent figure under Firat's tenure, alongside Richard Odada in a double pivot arrangement.

This duo is expected to provide both defensive cover and a launchpad for attacks, bridging the gap between defense and the forward line.

Kenneth Muguna is anticipated to assume the role of attacking midfielder, creating opportunities and supporting the lone striker from behind.

In the attack, Michael Olunga is set to lead the line, with his remarkable ability to link play, navigate tight spaces, and find the back of the net.

Flanking him will be Rooney Onyango on the right and Jonah Avire on the left, both of whom will be crucial in stretching the Malawian defense and providing width and creativity.
