Harambee Stars Player Ratings: Who Shined in Benni McCarthy's First Win over Chad?

Abigael Wafula 09:00 - 11.06.2025

Debutant Emmanuel Osoro was among those who stole the show in Harambee Stars' clash with Chad.

Benni McCarthy guided Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, to their first victory since being unveiled as the manager on March 3, 2025.

Harambee Stars put up a good fight to claim a 2-1 win over Chad in the second leg of their international friendlies as preparations gather pace ahead of the African Nations Championships in August.

Harambee Stars bounced back from a barren draw in the first leg of the match on Saturday, with the major undoing the team's attacking edge, but they rectified that and entered the match composed and ready to create chances and score.

The Bandari goalkeeper had little impact in the match apart from a good save in the first half, which denied Noubara Felix from finding the back of the net. However, his distribution was solid and helped launch several attacks.

In the second half, during the added time, Faruk Shikhalo was shown a yellow card for a bad foul.

Siraj Mohammed - 6/10

Having missed a chance to play in the first leg of the Harambee Stars clash against Chad, Siraj Mohammed was out to prove a point.

He managed to showcase a solid playing style, proving that he could keep Chad from scoring. Aside from Ali Mahamat’s strike in the 60th minute that saw Chad score a goal, Siraj Mohammed was dominant throughout the match before he was substituted.

Sylvester Owino - 4/10

Despite playing throughout the match, Sylvester Owino was not impactful.

Swaleh Pamba - 4/10

Swaleh Pamba’s decision-making when he went forward was not solid.

Lewis Bandi - 5/10

The AFC Leopards defender was in action throughout the match and guarded the Chad strikers from penetrating the Harambee Stars, though he had a chance to stop Ali Mahamat, but did not act in time.

Alpha Onyango - 5/10

Alpha Onyango only had 45 minutes to make an impact in the game as he was replaced by Brian Musa going into the second half of the match.

During his time on the pitch, however, the Gor Mahia midfielder could have given much during the game, especially following his impressive performance for K’Ogalo.

Austine Odhiambo - 6/10

The Gor Mahia midfielder continues to impress in national team colours and his overall reading of the game. He was instrumental in setting up the strikers to score goals.

A move initiated by Austin Odhimabo found Emmanuel Osoro delivering a low pass that helped David Sakwa score in the 45th minute.

William Lenkupae - 4/10

Just like in the first leg, the Central Coast Mariners' central midfielder failed to sparkle yet again. Harambee Stars should have doubled their lead in the 36th minute since Lenkupae found himself in a position to score but failed to capitalise on that.

Ben Stanley Omondi - 5/10

The Gor Mahia man registered an assist but looked unsure of his role early on, offering little defensive cover despite aiding forward play.

David Sakwa - 6/10

David Sakwa was instrumental in extending Harambee Stars’ lead to two goals and was very decisive on the pitch, taking chances solidly.

Emmanuel Osoro - 7/10

The debutant striker placed Kenya in the lead with his superb strike in the 18th minute before also setting up David Sakwa, who scored the second goal.

Brian Musa - 4/10

The Harambee Stars midfielder entered the pitch after the first half, and with his experience, he did not live up to the expectations of his fans.

Benja Nayamawi 3/10

The Bandari striker was nowhere to be seen and could not fit into David Sakwa’s shoes as he replaced him, coming back for the second half of the match.

Daniel Sakari 3/10

Daniel Sakari entered the match in the 73rd minute and did not have much to offer.
