Several reports indicated that Omala was set to move to Algerian giants USM Alger last week, and the 22-year old striker has now adressed them himself.

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala has addressed his links to Algerian side USM Alger after numerous reports last week suggested that the goal-getter is set to move Northside.

Omala currently leads the goalscoring charts with nine goals so far this season from 18 matches, and is currently still contracted to Gor Mahia, even starting their last match against Kariobangi Sharks earlier this month.

Head coach Johnathan McKinstry already confirmed that the club has not received any official offer from the Algerian outfit, and now the horses’ mouth itself has also addressed the situation.

“It is still a rumor,” Omala told The Good Company KE podcast.

“They have still not submitted their official offer,” Omala added.

Meanwhile, Omala has also revealed why his move to Swedish outfit FC Linköping City  in 2021 failed to go as he expected, as he only played five matches while on loan there before returning to Kenya.

“I think that was the toughest time in my football career.  There are things we could not agree on and at the time, teams did not have money (due to the COVID -19 pandemic.

“You needed to cater for yourself and so the only option was to return home and try to start over. When I came back, it was a little tough. I scored (what felt like) six or seven goals only, but last season, I found my way again.”

Omala has revealed that he is ready to move to the next level should the deal materialise or another club came in with an offer to take him to the next level, but is more than happy to remain at Gor Mahia in order to help them achieve their dreams.

“Yeah, as a player you have to be ready but if no offer comes, I still have something I want to achieve with the club and as an individual as well because I want us to retain the league.”

McKinstry  stressed that no club has officially contacted them about Omala, challenging the credibility of the circulating transfer rumours.

“When a team is interested in our player, they normally contact the club through the officials who normally then ask for my opinion. No contact has been made with Omalla up to this point and we have not received any offer so far,” he said.
