Hansi Flick has been relieved of his position as head coach of the German national team after a disastrous run of one win in six matches this year

Germany have decided to part ways with head coach Hansi Flick after a dreadful run that ended with Die Mannschaft losing to Japan for the second time in less than a year.

Japan defeat seals Flick’s fate

The former Bayern Munich gaffer was touted as the best choice to take over from Joachim Low after leading the Bavarians to an incredible treble in the same year that he took over the national team, however, things have not gone to plan for the Germans.

A group-stage exit from the World Cup should have seen Flick lose his job, but the DFB decided to keep faith in the German manager heading into the 2024 Euros, but things only got worse.

Flick leaves after disappointing Germany spell

After the World Cup, Germany have played in six preparatory friendly games and have won only once, against Peru.

DFB-Elf have lost four games within that run as well, including defeats to Poland, Colombia, Belgium, and Japan, with the loss to the Blue Samurai finally convincing the DFB that Flick was not the man to lead them to the 2024 Euros on home soil.

This brings to an end the ill-fated spell of Flick’s reign, and the former national team assistant leaves the post with a 48% win percentage, the lowest of any Germany manager since Erich Ribbeck who coached the team between 1998 and 2000 achieving a win percentage of only 41.67%.
