Defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz have been upset by KCB FC in the FKF Cup quarterfinal played on Saturday.

KCB FC secured a surprising 1-0 victory over defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz in the FKF Cup quarterfinal at Dandora Stadium on Saturday afternoon

The Abana Abeingo, unbeaten in nine matches, were strongly tipped to win, but the Bankers put up a sound defensive performance and offered a potent threat from set pieces and on the counter attack to earn themselves a place in the final four of the FKF Cup.

In the early exchanges, Homeboyz were the better team with the Bankers' keeper Shikalo being forced to punch Oliver Machaka's headed effort for a corner kick.

The defending champions were back again 12 minutes later when Moses Mudavadi’s long-range shot went just wide as KCB struggled to create meaningful chances.

Then in the 37th minute, what could be the game’s biggest chance fell in the Bankers' way when Philemon Nyakwaka benefited from a poor John Omondi clearance but his shot went wide despite a better option to set up an unmarked Henty Onyango.

As the contest headed for half-time, Estone Esiye and Moses Mudavadi came close for Homeboyz and the two teams went to the break goalless.

It continued as a game of few chances after the restart and the first realistic attempt at goal in the second half came from Moses Mudavadi when his turn-and-shoot went just wide.

The hosts were left to rue that chance as the Bankers broke the deadlock in the 59th minute courtesy of Danson Namasaka.

Homeboyz hit the side netting five minutes later before KCB substitute Shadrack Simiyu tested James Ssetuba from outside the box.

Moments later, Brian Chala could not capitalize from a defensive error by KCB as he blasted his effort off target from inside the box and a seemingly irked Odhiambo who pulled him out five minutes later.

Although the momentum of the match picked up towards the end, there was still nothing to write home about defending champions Homeboyz as their attacking frailties were laid bare.
