The Nigerian striker, who has struggled for consistent recognition with the Super Eagles, has clearly caught the attention of the seasoned tactician following his impressive form in the competition.

Dessers, 30, has been one of the better players for the Gers in the competition this season, with some of his standout displays coming against Manchester United and the enigmatic Jose Mourinho and his Fenerbahce side.

The Nigerian has scored three goals and two assists in 11 appearances and also looked sharp against the LaLiga side in the first leg.

But despite firing blanks in the first leg which ended goalless at the Ibrox, Valverde, now coaching Athletic Bilbao, described the Rangers forward as a "dangerous" player due to his relentless movement and ability to exploit spaces.

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde seems wary of Dessers.

Speaking about Dessers, via a video on X, Valverde said, “Dessers is constantly running into the spaces and is a beacon and a dangerous player.”

Valverde also shared insights on the upcoming match, emphasising its importance for Bilbao. “It's a decisive game,” he told UEFA.com.

“We've already played decisive games here, and the idea is to play our game, taking into account the gameplan they might have.”

“They are good on the counter-attack, but they can also play to dominate possession because they are used to doing that in Scotland.

In the first leg, we lacked clarity and pace in the game. We didn't manage to score, but now we have another chance.”

With Dessers leading the line for Rangers, Valverde’s comments highlight the challenge his team faces as they aim to overturn the tie. The Nigerian forward will look to prove his worth and live up to the "dangerous" tag in this all-important encounter.
