The Serbian, previously linked with FC Porto and Benfica in 2023, has signed a five-year contract with Bournemouth

Bournemouth has announced the signing of 25-year-old goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg from Chelsea.

According to local reports, the transfer fee was €29 million. Djordje Petrovic made the move to Chelsea in 2023, signing from MLS club New England Revolution in a £14 million deal.

"I'm very happy to be here. I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and play at my best level. At this club, with these facilities, I believe we can achieve that. I want to help the team achieve good results, improve every day, and become a better player," Petrovic said in his first interview as a Bournemouth player.

Last season, playing for Strasbourg in Ligue 1, he made 31 appearances and helped the team finish seventh, securing a spot in the Europa Conference League.

Petrovic served as Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper during the latter part of the 2023/24 season under Mauricio Pochettino but was later replaced by Robert Sanchez following Enzo Maresca's appointment.

Bournemouth's sporting director, Tiago Pinto, commented on Petrovic's signing: "I'm very happy with Djordje's arrival at the club. The opportunity to sign a player of his caliber was something we had to seize."

The Portuguese director added that the goalkeeper has 'impressive qualities' and 'a lot of experience for his age.'

With the end of Kepa Arrizabalaga's loan spell, coincidentally also from Chelsea but now transferred to Arsenal, the Cherries were forced into the market to find a replacement.
