Malouda has backed Osimhen to move to Chelsea

Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has passionately urged his old club to prioritise the signing of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, emphasising the urgent need for a consistent goalscorer at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been actively scouting for a new talismanic striker, and the name of the 26-year-old Osimhen has frequently surfaced in transfer speculation.

The Super Eagles striker is currently showcasing his talents on loan at Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray from his parent club Napoli, the powerful forward has been in scintillating form, netting an impressive 33 goals across all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season.

Victor Osimhen has scored 33 goals this season for Gala.

What Malouda said

Malouda, who enjoyed a successful spell at Chelsea between 2007 and 2013, believes Osimhen possesses the crucial attributes to lead the Chelsea attack and rediscover their scoring prowess.

Speaking to Racing Tipster, the French international didn't mince his words about Chelsea's striking deficiencies and the potential impact of Osimhen's arrival.

“We [Chelsea] need a striker that scores 20 or more a season. Osimhen is the kind of player who can do that,” Malouda asserted, highlighting the Nigerian's proven goalscoring pedigree.

Malouda acknowledged the potential hurdles in securing Osimhen's signature but remained optimistic.

He continued, “I think the issue for Chelsea is how much he’ll cost, and what wages he wants. That can be sorted out. But we definitely need experienced players who can also give options in the way we are playing. So I think it should try to close the deal as soon as possible.

“The [Osimhen] links with Chelsea are strong. We’ve had brilliant African footballers in the past, and Osimhen can be the next generation of African players at Chelsea.

Osimhen continued his fine form.

"I would love to see him join the club. I think he would be an excellent signing. I also think he would help someone like Nicolas Jackson improve.”

Osimhen's explosive pace, aerial ability, and clinical finishing helped him to stardom. After a promising start at Wolfsburg, he flourished at Lille, earning a high-profile transfer to Napoli in 2020.
