Arsenal could be about to lose Thomas Partey for free unless the Ghanaian midfielder is handed a new contract as he is attracting interest from two top Spanish clubs.

Barcelona are reportedly in discussions to acquire Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey on a free transfer this summer.

Representatives from the La Liga giants have initiated talks with Partey's camp, as his future at the Emirates remains uncertain.

The 31-year-old's contract expires at the end of June, and despite manager Mikel Arteta's public desire to retain him, a new agreement has yet to be reached.

The protracted negotiations have piqued the interest of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, both seeking to reinforce their midfields without significant expenditure.

Sources suggest that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is a keen admirer of the former Atletico Madrid player, viewing Partey as a cost-effective solution to bolster their midfield.

Partey, who joined Arsenal in 2020 for £45 million, has experienced injury setbacks during his time in North London, but remains a commanding presence when fit.

What Is Thomas Partey Looking for In His Next Deal?

Thomas Partey is looking for a big-money contract.

He featured in 35 league games last season, playing a key role in Arsenal's title challenge. As per The Sun, Partey would prefer to remain in London, having established a strong rapport with Arteta and settled his family there.

However, he seeks a contract that reflects his value and avoids a substantial pay cut, recognising this may be his last major deal.

While Barcelona continue to navigate Financial Fair Play regulations, the prospect of signing a high-caliber player like Partey without a transfer fee is appealing. Although interest has also emerged from Saudi Arabian clubs, Barcelona have made the first concrete move.

“Thomas respects Arsenal massively and loves living in London, but he also knows his worth and wants a deal that reflects his standing at the club,” a source close to Partey told The Sun.

Partey's potential departure could pave the way for Arsenal to pursue Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Reports indicate that Arsenal are prepared to activate his £51 million release clause, with personal terms and documentation already agreed upon.
