The Gunners could become serious challengers for the 2023/24 Premier League title with the signing of the former Real Madrid captain

Premier League giants Arsenal are reportedly considering a loan move for former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema, who is currently playing for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Benzema, who has an impressive scoring record with Real Madrid, is said to be unhappy in Saudi Arabia and is looking for a move away, giving the Gunners reason to believe a deal can be made.

Despite being 36 years old, Benzema is seen as an upgrade to Arsenal's current striking options, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, due to his reputation as a world-class striker.

Arsenal's interest in Benzema

According to Transfer News Live on X, Arsenal's interest in Benzema comes amidst their search for a top-tier striker to bolster their chances in the Premier League. The club has been linked with Ivan Toney of Brentford and Victor Osimhen of Napoli, but financial constraints have been an issue.

A loan move for Benzema is considered a risk-free investment for Arsenal, but it would depend on Benzema accepting a significant pay cut from his current £1.66 million per week wages. Arsenal is unlikely to offer more than £250,000-a-week.

Arsenal face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United for Benzema

Chelsea is also reported to be interested in Benzema, making Arsenal's pursuit more competitive. Manchester United was initially linked with Benzema but is not currently pursuing him, focusing instead on other striker options to support Rasmus Hojlund.

The potential move for Benzema is seen as a crucial step for Arsenal in their quest to strengthen their squad, especially in the goal-scoring department. However, it is noted that the success of the deal hinges on various factors, including Benzema's willingness to move to the Premier League and the financial aspects of the loan deal, as per TEAMTalk
