AFC Leopards brace for tricky FC Talanta test as Police intent on keeping pressure on Gor Mahia with City Stars win

AFC Leopards prepare for Talanta test as Kenya Police & Tusker hope on keeping pressure on Gor Mahia to keep faint title hopes alive.

AFC Leopards will be facing FC Talanta hoping they can break into the top six in a clash set to take place at the Dandora Stadium from 3 PM.

Leopards, who have generally been in impeccable form for most of 2024, know it will not be plain-sailing, considering they will be facing a Talanta side who are battling for survival.

Ingwe are seventh on 41 points after 28 games, but have a chance to make it to sixth should they beat Talanta, which would leapfrog them above Posta Rangers, who have been out of form since the turn of the year when they lost Kennedy Owino, incidentally to Leopards.

Leopards have been on song at the Dandora Stadium ever since they started playing there. They beat FC Compel 3-1, before following it up with a 1-0 win last weekend against Bandari.

For FC Talanta, it has not been plain-sailing. After they suspended head coach Ken Kenyatta earlier this year citing poor results, they did go on a decent run of unbeaten form, but have now reverted to type, losing their last two games on the bounce to City Stars and Posta Rangers.

A win for them would see them move to 13th place.

Meanwhile, Tusker will be taking on Murang’a Seal hoping to consolidate a second place finish at the end of the season.

They have been on a good run of form, going unbeaten in any of their last five games, but their inconsistent form in the first half of the season and in some games in April effectively knocked them out of the title race.

For the Brewers, it will be a chance to play for some pride and individual accolades, as keeper Brian Bwire and goal-getter Erick Kapaito are chasing individual accolades.

Murang’a Seal look like they will still be playing in the top flight next season, but their next fixtures are kind of tricky. Gaining anything from this game, even a point, would be priceless for the Juma Abdallah-coached side.

In the other league match to be played today, Kenya Police will be hosting Nairobi City Stars at the Police Sacco Stadium from 3 PM hoping to pile the pressure on Gor Mahia.

Police have been on a roll since Salim Babu took the reigns in January, losing no game whatsoever. Even though they are prioritizing winning the FKF Cup this year, they still have an outside chance of winning the title.

Nairobi City Stars are intent on consolidating a top four finish, having taken many by surprise this season by staying in the top five positions for most of the season, considering their struggles last season.
