AFC Leopards Seek to Make Title Statement But Formidable Kenya Police Stand in the Way

AFC Leopards will be looking for a victory against on-form Kenya Police as the two sides clash in an FKF Premier League match with top spot in sight for both teams.

AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani said their Mashemeji Derby win means they are firmly in the FKF Premier League title race and their credentials will be further tested on Saturday.

Leopards face champions Kenya Police in a tricky match but are buoyed by their 1-0 win over Gor Mahia last Sunday, which left them just three points off top spot.

Ingwe ended a run of three games without defeat as they outclassed Gor Mahia in the 98th Mashemeji Derby and have a chance to close in on the leading sides.

Leopards have 17 points from 10 games, three behind Police, Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz and Posta Rangers, who are all on 20, but K’Ogalo have played 11 games, Abana Abeingo have played 12 while the mailmen 13.

Kenya Police Enjoying Great Form

Ingwe can therefore close in with a win at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday but it will not be an easy one against a Police side that have won four of their last five matches.

Police are the form team in the division after picking 12 points from a possible 15 over the last one month and will be looking to add Leopards to their list of casualties.

Police have bounced back from a shaky start to the season, which saw Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije sacked and Dusan Stojanovic installed, with the Serbian coach overseeing a turnaround that sees them get back on track as they look to defend their title.

Ingwe Have Better Head-to-Head Record

Police know it is now in their hands after watching Gor Mahia and Homeboyz drop points on Friday. The law enforcers have one match in hand over K’Ogalo and two over Homeboyz and if they win, they will move three points clear at the top of the table.

Leopards have a good record against Police as in their 10 meetings in the top flight, they have won four, another four ending in draws with just two wins for the law enforcers.

Last season, Ingwe won 1-0 in December 2024 before the second meeting ended in a goalless draw in March this year.
