AFC Leopards supporters are fearing the prospect of one of their former coaches joining Gor Mahia with rumours linking the tactician to the K’Ogalo hot seat once McKinstry departs.

Former AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems is being rumoured to be on the list of possible candidates to replace departing Johnathan McKinstry at Gor Mahia.

McKinstry is close to joining the Gambia as the national team coach once Gor Mahia wrap up their league title, which could be as soon as next weekend.

That will see Gor Mahia go in such of a new coach and already, Aussems is being linked to the job which would be a nightmare for Leopards fans who rate him so highly following his two-year stint at the club.

While he did not win a trophy, Aussems was lauded for implementing an exciting style of football which a section of K’Ogalo fans have been yearning for even during the reign of McKinstry despite his hugely successful two years at the club.

Leopards supporter Mbakaya khwa Milimu is among those who are fearing the prospecting of watching Aussems in the K’Ogalo dugout.

“Patrick Aussems rumours to Gor Mahia would be a proper dagger to my chest. Shindwe,” he said online with his post generating varied reactions.

Some Gor Mahia fans feel the Belgian tactician would be an asset for the club especially in continental football given K’Ogalo will be in the CAF Champions League next season.

The 59-year-old has extensive experience on the continent as he managed Tanzania giants Simba SC and South Africa’s Black Leopards before joining Ingwe and previously handled Sudan’s Al Hilal.

He led Simba to a league title and the CAF Champions League quarter-finals in the same season but his stint at Leopards was hampered by a transfer ban that forced him to relay on a number of youngsters.

However, Gor Mahia could have to battle with other interested clubs to land him given Aussems has been heavily linked to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in recent days.

Reports in South Africa this week claimed Aussems has been contacted by Amakhosi with a view to replacing Cavin Johnson who has struggled this season with his side in ninth position and out of the running for continental football qualification.
