Kariobangi Sharks striker John Makwata entered an exclusive club of players who have scored four goals in a Kenyan Premier League match on Saturday but who else did it before him?

Kariobangi Sharks striker John Makwata joined an exclusive list of players who have scored four goals in a Kenyan Premier League when he led his side to a 5-2 victory against Sofapaka on Saturday.

Makwata scored his first in the opening minute of the game before Steve Bwire made it 2-0 after 28 minutes but the former sealed his brace in the 31s minute although Jacob Onyango pulled one back for Sofapaka to make it 3-1 at halftime in favour of the slum boys.

After the break, Darius Msagha brought Batoto ba Mungu closer to levelling matters with his side’s second goal but the Makwata show continued as the striker netted in the 63rd and 85th minutes to hand William Muluya’s men the big win.

Following his heroics, Makwata has joined four other players who scored four goals in a game in the Kenyan league previously.

Michael Olunga

On June 27, 2015, Michael Olunga scored four as Gor Mahia beat Chemelil Sugar 4-1 at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Olunga opened the scoring in the 37th minute after being put through by Karim Nizigiyimana but Daniel Murage drew the scores level three minutes later.

Olunga netted his second in the 56th minute before connecting well with Nizigiyimana’s looped ball for 3-1 and completed a good outing with his fourth six minutes from time.

Edwin Lavatsa

Former Gor Mahia striker Edwin Lavatsa also scored four for Bandari FC in their 6-2 demolition of Muhoroni Youth in Muhoroni on November 1, 2017.

Lavatsa opened the floodgates in the 19th minute and added further goals later on with Anthony Wambani and Baron Oketch scoring the others for the Dockers. Ambrose Ayoyi and Anthony Otuoma netted the consolation goals for Muhoroni.

Masoud Juma

Three days after shipping in six against Bandari, Muhoroni Youth were on the end of another humiliating defeat, suffering a 7-0 thrashing from Kariobani Sharks with Masoud Juma netting four goals at Kasarani Stadium.

Juma scored two goals inside 10 minutes before Duke Abuya and Ovella Ochieng made it 4-0 at halftime. Juma sealed his hat-trick in the 47th minute with Mathew Tayo and Cavin Odongo adding two more goals and the striker would complete the rout in the 86th minute.

Victor Omune

On February 9, 2023, AFC Leopards midfielder Victor Omune scored four goals as Ingwe thrashed FC Talanta 6-0.

Omue broke the deadlock after seven minutes with Cliff Nyakeya making 2-0 which Ingwe took to halftime.
