Pulse Sports lists the players who were deemed not good enough by Manchester United but have gone on to shine elsewhere while they continue to struggle.
Manchester United have made the news for all the wrong reasons this season as they lurch from defeat to defeat in the Premier League.
United have been on relegation form for nearly the whole of this season with the appointment of Ruben Amorim in November making this worse than they were under his predecessor Erik ten Hag.
United have lost 17 Premier League games and with two matches remaining, they have just 39 points, an embarrassing return from a squad valued at €699 million as per Transfermarkt.

So, who are the United rejects shining for other clubs while Amorim’s team struggle at Old Trafford and beyond?
7 Man United Rejects Shining for Other Clubs as Red Devils Embarrass Themselves on The Pitch
Scott McTominay
)
A Manchester United academy graduate, Scott McTominay left the club after last season, having been at Old Trafford since he was seven.
McTominay’s sale was a shock to some fans as he went to Napoli for £25.7 million and since signing for the Serie A team, he has done nothing but prove that United were wrong.
The midfielder has scored a career-high 12 goals across all competitions and provided four assists with Napoli in pole position to win the Serie A title.
Antony
)
Brazilian winger Antony had been made the poster boy of everything that is wrong at United due to his incredible €95 million transfer from Ajax Amsterdam in 2022.
Antony had even fallen down the pecking order and cut a frustrating figure but since being loaned out to Spanish side Real Betis in January, he is a player reborn.
The left-footed attacker has been scoring classic goals, some even on his weaker right foot, and has managed eight goals and five assists in all competitions, guiding Betis to the Europa Conference League final.
Marcus Rashford
)
Another United academy graduate who fans thought would play all his career at the club, Marcus Rashford exited in the January transfer window for Aston Villa, having been frozen from the squad by Amorim.
Rashford has looked rejuvenated at Villa as they challenge for Champions League qualification and has so far weighed in with four goals and six assists having looked out of sorts by the time he left United.
David de Gea
)
A United legend, goalkeeper David de Gea spent 12 great years at United, experiencing the best and some of the worst periods at the club.
Still, even when they were struggling, De Gea was the best performer, having been crowned Player of the Season four times, but when his contract expired in 2023, United dumped him like a hot potato.
De Gea was not even given a chance to say goodbye to fans as it had been assumed a new contract was a formality.
He spent the 2023-24 season without a club but returned this season, joining Serie A side Fiorentina where he is in line to be crowned the club’s Player of the Year with AC Milan now rumoured to be interested.
Meanwhile, his replacement at United Andre Onana has turned into a meme over the mistakes he is making and the cheap goals he has been conceding.
Mason Greenwood
)
Mason Greenwood is another United academy graduate who was offloaded although the circumstances of his departure were different.
Having been arrested and charged in court on suspicion of rape, before the charges were dropped after withdrawal of key witnesses, United conducted their own internal investigation but after several months, opted against retaining him.
The forward joined La Liga side Getafe on loan, scoring 10 goals in 36 games, but he has shown his real quality at French club Marseille, where he has 19 goals in Ligue 1, and has just helped them qualify for the UEFA Champions League while United struggle to score goals.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
)
Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka also left United at the end of last season and returned to London where he joined West Ham.
He has since blossomed with his coach Graham Potter saying he is playing the best football of his career and to back it up, Wan-Bissaka has scored two goals and provided four assists, something he rarely did at United.
Wan-Bissaka has even sorted out his international future as he is set to play for DR Congo now.
Anthony Elanga
)
Winger Anthony Elanga is another United academy graduate who was deemed not good enough but is now flying.
Elanga left United two years ago for Nottingham Forest and has been showing them what they are missing.
The pacy winger has six goals and 10 assists in the Premier this season and scored against United when Forest won 1-0 last month.
