The midfielder had witnessed limited play time at AIK.

Former AFC Leopards midfielder cum defender Collins Sichenje has completed a season-long loan to Finnish side Kuopio Palloseura (KuPS) from AIK Solna in Sweden.

The deal is expected to expire at the end of 2023 and will bolster the club’s defensive department ahead of the new season that kicks off on Wednesday 5 April.

The 2019 league champions confirmed the signing of the former Green Commandos defender revealing that he is in line to make his debut in the league opener.

“Kuopio Palloseura, which is preparing for the Veikkausliiga season, is getting stronger at the beginning of the season, when defender Collins Sichenje joins the ranks of the Kuopio team with a loan agreement lasting 2023 from the big Swedish club AIK.

The central defender arrived in Kuopio on Thursday and is already available on April 5. in the series opener against FC Inter," read a statement from the club.

Sichenje had endured limited game time at AIK since joining the club in March 2022, turning out for the club in only 12 matches.

AIK were interested in shipping out the 19-year-old with their defensive department being overbooked as Robin Tihi and Jetmir Haliti were reserves.

Brommapojkarna and Helsingborgs IF were also rumored to be interested in the defender who can also be deployed in midfield with head coach Pasi Tuutti waxing lyrical on Sichenje.

"We have been wrestling with the players downstairs all winter. In addition to injuries, turnover is natural after last season's success. The best players in the Veikkausliiga continue their journey to bigger circles, deservedly so.

Collins is the right choice to fill the gap that has been created. Aggressiveness and readiness to fight bring us much-needed tools for various implementations of game plans," said Tuutti.
