Homeboyz lost 2-1 to Sofapaka in an FKFPL match played on Thursday.

Former Kenyan international Ibrahim Shikanda was left scratching his head while blaming bad luck after Kakamega Homeboyz crashed to a third consecutive defeat and seventh in the season by losing to Sofapaka on Thursday afternoon.

Even after acquiring five players, including Somalia international Mohamed Adnan Homeboyz are now unlikely to finish among the top three this season. Shikanda insists the better team lost 3-1 at Kasarani Annex.

"We created numerous opportunities, we must have got to the byline four or five times. It was our own fault we didn't take our chances, we contributed to our own downfall there, but I felt there was not an awful lot we didn't do well.

We need now to work more on the team and sharpen the striking force which has been getting many chances to score but back luck has been our major undoing.

In the past three games, we have had chances but have not been able to utilize them, but I want to assure our fans that we will get back our finishing touch," the Homeboyz assistant coach said.

Sofapaka care less about Homeboyz lamentations as they gleefully trudge further away from the dreaded relegation area.

David Ouma was happy with how his charges utilized their few chances in the match.

"I am happy that our players, especially Manga and I, have seen a glimpse of what we are trying to build. We struggled in the first leg of the season but for now things are different and players have shown that we have quality and I thank the boys for the win," Ouma said.

The defeat left Kakamega Homeboyz 10th on the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table while Sofapaka jumped to 11th place with 25 points from 20 matches played so far this season.

Kakamega Homeboyz will try to curse away the bad luck on Wednesday, 29 March when they will welcome KCB at Bukhungu Stadium.
