Ulinzi Stars host the title chasers on Thursday afternoon in a fixture that has a lot of bearing for both teams.

Ulinzi Stars head coach Bernard Mwalala has called to attention his inconsistent troops and stressed the need for right mindset ahead of their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) clash against Tusker.

The Soldiers fell by a solitary goal to lowly Posta Rangers last weekend and missed a big opportunity to close in on the leading pack.

A crafty Mwalala urged his charges to stay energized for the blockbuster fixture against coach Robert Matano’s charges rather than being distracted by the loss to the Rangers.

“A league match is not a final, we have an important match on Thursday. We need to stay positive and maintain a growth mindset focusing on how we can improve rather than dwelling on the negative outcome of the past game,” said Mwalala.

The Soldiers are in an unfamiliar position on the log, with 31 points from 19 games leaving them in seventh place.

They have won only eight league matches this season and their last win was against Kakamega Homeboyz in early March.

Tusker are currently third on the log with 35 points from 18 matches, with their last result being a one-all draw against FC Talanta.

In head-to-head stats, Ulinzi Stars and Tusker have met in 30 league matches since 2014. The Soldiers boast nine wins compared to 10 wins for the Brewers, while 12 matches have been drawn.

When the teams met earlier this season at Kasarani Annex, Ulinzi were able to hold the defending champions into a goalless draw.

The last time Ulinzi Stars managed to beat Tusker was in 2019 when Daniel Waweru scored in the 1-0 victory at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
