The celebrated Ongare failed to reach the round of 16 in the concluded Women's World Boxing championships.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games flyweight bronze medallist Christine Ongare has not given up on winning a world title despite her disappointing outing at the Women’s World Boxing Championships held in New Delhi, India from March 15 to 26.
Ongare had started out her campaign on a high note after knocking out Tanzania’s Rahma Maganga in the preliminary stages but her efforts proved futile in the Round of 16 stage. Competing in the minimumweight division she was knocked out by Erivan Barut of Turkey.

BOXING Frustrated Ongare blames referee for losing bout
Ongare became the first Kenyan to make it to the round of 16.
During the 2022 edition in Istanbul, Turkey, Ongare could not make the cut to the Round of 16 after losing 0-5 to Spaniard Hanna Okhota. However, the pugilist is still optimistic that she will one day, emerge as the women’s world champion.
“I still have a dream of winning the women’s world title. Winning gold in Africa is still important for me but my eyes are glued on the world title,” she said, as reported by KBC Sport.
She is also among the 21 pugilists (13 men and eight women) selected for the Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam starting today, April 11 to next week Tuesday, April 18.
Ongare termed the championship as a challenging one and revealed that intensifying her preparations will act as a big boost for her chances in medaling.
