Warning shots have been fired at reigning Olympic and World 3000m Steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali as Amos Serem outlines the tactic to reclaim Kenya's steeplechase glory.
Kenyans have always been known to dominate steeplechase but in the recent past, Moroccans and Ethiopians have shown Team Kenya dust, especially in global events including the World Championships and Olympic Games.
The last time a Kenyan won the steeplechase title at the World Championships was in 2019 in Doha, Qatar, where Conseslus Kipruto and Beatrice Chepkoech took the men’s and women’s titles respectively.
At the Olympic Games, Kenya last won the title during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics while the women are yet to bag a title at the global bonanza. Kenya was stripped of the title by Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali and Amos Serem thinks it’s high time Kenya reclaims the title.

New dates have been confirmed for the 5th edition of the Eldoret City Marathon after it was postponed three times last year.
The former World Under-20 champion has shared his thoughts on how Kenya can reclaim the steeplechase title and once again go to the top.
“The first thing, I hope we shall run well at the African Games because it will give us the motivation to keep going until the Olympic Games.
“I would also wish that as steeplechasers, we should come together and train together so that we can learn the different tactics.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist noted that after his exit from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, there has been a lot he has learnt and he is now ready to attack.
“After the Commonwealth Games, I went back to the drawing board and checked where I went wrong. After that, I believe I have worked on many areas that were letting me down and I’m ready for the task,” a confident Serem added.
